Podcast: WSI's Jim Menard on Marine Weather Forecasting

Date: 11/27/2006
Length: 00:18:49

With over two decades of meteorology experience, Jim Menard is an expert at detecting, forecasting and visualizing the weather, a topic in which anyone who spends time out on the water is extremely interested.  Following stints as a television weatherman in the Tampa Bay area and a college meteorology instructor in Florida, Jim joined WSI Corporation, the world's number one provider of weather-driven software and systems, in 1987.

Today, Jim is Vice President and General Manager of the Transportation/Energy business unit at WSI where he is responsible for the business unit’s sales, marketing, engineering, and forecasting centers for both its US and UK operations.  In this role, Jim is actively involved in many of WSI's business development and R&D efforts, including its marine solutions which provide boaters with the most accurate and trusted live marine weather information available on the sea today.  WSI’s marine weather data can be found on Sirius Satellite’s new Marine Weather Service which is currently available via Raymarine’s E-Series displays.

The combination of Jim’s experience as a Florida meteorologist and his current work with WSI’s marine weather solutions uniquely equip him to provide insight into how methods and technology for predicting and tracking marine weather has changed over the years, and what additional advances boaters can expect to see in the future.
