About this Episode

Welcome to the inaugural episode of the Homeschooler Podcast. It's designed to be an open forum by homeschoolers, for homeschoolers, and for anyone else who is interested. We're in our first year as homeschoolers and have a lot to learn ourselves. We'll try to keep each episode around 10 minutes long and release them maybe every other week, depending on our own schedules and availability.

We discussed some potential ideas for individual episodes:

  • Documenting, to some extent, our own homeschooling adventure;
  • Making the decision to homeschool;
  • Recommending homeschool-related books;
  • Organizing your home effectively;
  • Choosing a curriculum;
  • Notifying the local school district;
  • Getting in touch with support groups;
  • Planning special activities;
  • Sharing your ideas and feedback!
Additional Info

"An estimated 1,900,000 to 2,400,000 K-12 children are home educated in the U.S. during 2005-2006." - Brian D. Ray, Ph.D., 2006, via National Home Education Research Institute

The United States Census Bureau states:
Youngsters being educated at home number more than 1-million, or just over 2 percent of the total. About half of all homeschooled children are in grades K through 5. Households involved in home schooling tend to be made up more often of two-parent families and those in which only one parent is working.
